Reflecting on the Christmas Season

By Bryan | December 13, 2007

Christmas is such a wonderful time of the year. It is not only the time of the year that all Christians celebrate the birth of their Savior, Jesus Christ, but also a great time of reflection. It is the perfect time of the year to really look back at how your year was and get ready to celebrate Jesus and what He did for us.

What has your year been like? Have you given generously and been an unselfish helper/giver? Have you followed the greatest commandment of them all, love your Lord God with all your heart and treat your neighbor as you would treat yourself? Did you go out of your way to help a stranger in need even when no one else was around and did you brag about it?

Following the teachings of Jesus is hard. No one will ever claim that it is easy, and I know even Jesus had a hard time doing what was right at the hardest of times. He died for us so that we can live forever with Him. He made the ultimate sacrifice for us by giving His only life. So why do we have such a hard time with simple rules? Well, it is because we have a gift called free will, and God allows us to do with it what we want. It is His gift to us.

Remember when people say to you, well if God wants us to be perfect, then why do we have free will? A gift is simply that. A gift that demanded is really no gift at all. That is why we are like the way we are.

So when you have some free time and are praying either at home or church, remember to look back at your year and ask for forgiveness. There is no need to go to a priest to confess your sins. God told us that no man can forgive sins and God forgives you automatically, not after you pray ten Hail Mary’s and five Our Fathers. Simply talk with God and ask, and He will help you clear your heart and get ready to receive Him the way He wants to be received. Merry Christmas!
